LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Freedom from Fear
Dear Editor:
How is it that we live in fear? There are red, orange, yellow, green and other alerts. Don't we have the mightiest military the world has ever known? We have guns, rockets, tanks, warplanes, battleships, aircraft carriers, missiles, weapons of mass destruction in the thousands, and the best warriors with protective gear that money can buy. We still live in fear. Why is that? Is there a fundamental flaw in the American policy reactions to terrorists? Many decades ago four fundamental freedoms were enunciated by Franklin Delano Roosevelt. One of those freedoms was, FREEDOM FROM FEAR. I suggest that there is a solution to the problem concerning terrorists. The solution is not unique and has been around for centuries. Do terrorists have a cause? If they do have a reason for acting as they do what is it? Terrorists do have causes. Terrorists feel injustices and they respond in the only way they know how to stand up to power. They have marginal power and are without an organized military. They are without uniforms, army, military hardware up through weapons of mass destruction. How then do they respond to what they see as real injustices: lack of food, clothing, housing, family, satisfying employment and a decent way of life? The simplest way to respond to the mightiest power is to wrap one's self in “HE,” high explosives, and to detonate by stealth the explosive in places where power is manifest. The most sophisticated way was demonstrated recently when persons commandeered airplanes and flew them into manifest places of power, the Twin Towers and the Pentagon. The response to those terrorist acts has been to attempt
to secure safety by making everyone suspect. Hence every
manner of security apparatus is put into operation. Barriers
of every imaginable type are built. Security manpower is
organized. Fear is accepted as the order of this new era.
No thought is entertained to make security universal and
to take away the causes of the terrorists. By recognizing
the causes of the terrorists and by taking action to mute
their complaints one could most certainly nullify terrorism.
America has long been both envied and detested. It is envied
because of what we have and detested because of what we do.
Los Alamos has long boasted, "FOR FIFTY YEARS IT KEPT THE PEACE.
" Through deterrence or control by fear IT kept the peace. A
former, W-Division, weapons division head recently boasted,
mess with the United States and we will make your country "go
away", and we will bring "overwhelming force" to bear on peoples
who challenge our imperialism. To his way of thinking we
are the "good" guys. Others who have lived in fear and felt
injustice for more than five decades think otherwise and
challenge American power in terroristic ways.
For centuries a new doctrine has been proclaimed. The new doctrine has been ignored by the doctrine of might. War is now defense. Peace though strength has, as before, been the rational of the mighty. The former President Eisenhower warned us of the dangers of a military and industrial complex. That complex has now reached its pinnacle. The limited resources of the mightiest of nations are allocated for obviously ineffective military acquisitions. The mightiest now also live in fear. The new, but ignored doctrine, is: Do unto others as you would have others do unto you. Do good to those who might hurt you. Love your enemy. This doctrine is viewed by the mighty as a sign of weakness. Nonetheless, I assure all that this new way of thinking should be practiced. Einstein noted that since the Trinity test man must adopt a new way of thinking . There must be a freedom from fear, not just for a few, but for everyone. The world can be made a safe place for everyone if military expenditures, which sap the strength of nations, were used for the manufacture of good and useful things. Every item from a gun to weapons of mass destruction must be recognized as being harmful to life on earth. It is not enough to shout, "Peace." The new doctrine must be implemented. J. Robert Oppenheimer in his last address as director of Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory warned, "The peoples of the world must unite, or they will perish." Render unto God, and man, service to a sustenance life on earth.
This has a moral, patriotic priority for this over the, Hup,
two, three, four shouts of obedient, unthinking, loyal, and
patriotic service to a rich, aggressive, lawless, demanding,
imperial Caesar. Pastors everywhere should understand and they
must act.
It is the responsibility of every leader, every politician, every editor, every pastor, every person to act to sustain life on this planet. The alternative as now practiced and carried to its final phase is too horrible to contemplate. Should man survive on this planet? It should not be our destiny to destroy ourselves. As long as there is life there is hope. This voice crying out from our burnt-out wilderness in Los Alamos, New Mexico should be heeded. The present race to oblivion must be terminated. Let common sense prevail. Let there be peace and freedom and freedom from fear for everyone on the planet. Peace and love, Don Eduardo de Los Alamos Edward B. Letter to the EditorHubble Telescope It is FALSE economy to cut funding and stop the re-supply / refurbishment of the space telescope. There will be a gap of several years before it’s replacement can be sent up. With the increase of large solid objects hitting the earth and the End / beginning of the Mayan calendar in winter (December of 2112) we should not be blinded. The sun is going thru a Mega-cycle, The Shoemaker-Levey comet had many mountain -sized fragments still orbiting the sun, we need to know what is out there. I suggest that the Space telescope should be at least kept in orbit and that it should be used in a re- cycling program as the heart of a moon-based telescope...... Using DNA to Trace African Ancestry Part of a growing group of pioneering commercial laboratories, Washington, DC-based African Ancestry, Inc. (www.africanancestry.com), is the exclusive licensee of Dr. Rick Kittles’ extensive database of genetic lineages from Africa. The database—the world’s largest repository of its kind—-was just completed by Dr. Kittles, an expert at the forefront of efforts to use DNA to trace ancestry and scientific director of African Ancestry. The company is owned entirely by African-American investors. As a part of the firm’s confidential testing process, cells swabbed from the inside of an individual’s cheek are compared with genetic information that Dr. Kittles gathered via blind sampling methods from people living in countries ranging from Senegal to Niger. African Ancestry’s database holds genetic lineages of individuals who respectively are members of any one of 75 ethnic groups residing in the West and Central African regions from which people were procured for the Trans-Atlantic slave trade that occurred from about 1600 to 1850. African Ancestry also has access to DNA sequence information that other sources have collected throughout the continent. Unlike similar tests now available, in addition to telling an individual if he or she does in fact share genetic lineages with African peoples, African Ancestry’s testing process can also pinpoint from which region in Africa his or her lineage originates. . What Bush wants, Bush gets The Bush Administration and biotech industry won a significant GE battle recently. After a five year moratorium on genetically engineered (GE) foods, the European Union has caved in to pressure from the US and has now conceded that it will lift the ban and approve GE sweetcorn. This resignation of food safety standards falls on the heels of New Zealand’s cancellation of a two year moratorium on GE crop trials, which happened just a few weeks ago.
